  1. Very good product but know what to expect Review by Roger of Orlando

I bought the Curb-Alert with camera. I am happy with it, but I have only had it installed for one week. The purchase and installation was more complicated an issue than I expected, and you need to be prepared. The camera addition is well worth the extra money. The sensor will alert you when close to the curb, and with the camera you can see what is below your hood line. Let me tell you why I even purchased this product. At about 9 p.m. my wife and I pulled into a restaurant parking lot that had parking bumpers. I heard a loud tear and felt an impact. Not knowing what happened I backed up and the parking curb tore my Honda Accord bumper off.
I jumped out of my car and there in the darkness was my bumper, part of my front under carriage, and some lining that looked like sound proofing. I could not believe it. I looked at the parking bumper and saw that on the right side a rod that held the bumper to the ground was sticking up about two inches and so when I pulled in it tore into the underside of my bumper and when I backed up it tore my bumper off. I picked up everything and put it into the truck and backseat, and went into the seafood restaurant. I asked for the manager and took her outside and while she was sympathetic, she said I should call the owner of the property Monday and make a claim. She did give my wife and I a drink while we ate. Well, I made it the 100 miles or so home and went to the body shop and they took care of the repair. I was determined to get a front camera and sensor and that is what lead me to BrandMotion and this product. I read all the reviews. I have an after market Kenwood sound and screen system and it shows me my backup camera; this screen turned into an issue. I bought the BrandMotion curb-alert with camera. You do need a professional audio-video installer to do this installation. He could not get the controller that goes inside the passenger side to work and it turned out to be defective. I recommend buying directly from BrandMotion. They admitted that they did get a batch of defective parts but that has been corrected and so they sent a replacement. When I got it and installed everything then we had no picture from the video screen of the curb-alert camera. The issue you need to be aware of is that many after market music and dashboard screens do not have the wiring to allow this type of camera to work. In other words, the backup camera is the only one that will work. So I called Greg at BrandMotion technical help line and it turned out that I had to spend another $100 to buy their splitter to allow the one Kenmore outlet to handle two input cameras. I respect the technical knowledge that it takes to connect the Curb-Alert and then connect the splitter and there were technical issues to get it all to work. I advise you to call the maker of your video screen to see if it will accept this product or what is needed such as the splitter. I personally think BrandMotion should anticipate this splitter issue and charge a little more and provide a splitter. But after more money than I expected, the sensor does sense the curb, the camera comes on, my Kenwood screen does show the curb and all is good. BrandMotion and their Greg treated me properly, my technician is still recovering, and I am happy, after spending more money than I expected! You can avoid all this if you look carefully at any parking curb; but at night you can’t tell. So, my friend, I do recommend this product but do get the details figured out before you do.
